Today I looked at a 99 2.5 RS automatic 107k mile, for sale by it's second owner. I must say it was very clean overall for a 99. All original paint minus the front bumper that was backed into and replaced at some point. Interior door panels show a little wear but nothing I was too worried about. It ran smooth, no smoke or anything out of the ordinary. However I did have a couple of concerns and questions.
The body itself looks rest free all around. The original owner had this car in Illinois for awhile and I did notice some rust on the calipers and under the hood some parts looked like they had some rust/oxidation on them. Would this be normal coming from such a region? The center console lid is broken but an easy fix for me. The under side of the car didn't look too bad, my worry is finding any surprises down the road. Mechanically it seems sound and had the head gaskets, water pump and other maintenance done about 7k miles. The other thing is the price. Right now the owner is asking $7500, obviously kind of high, what would be reasonable to offer?
