So I have a 99 GF8, all the lights on it work except the hvac, speedo, fuel etc... the signal light and all the lights at the bottom of the dash all work. I've seen others with the same issue and were told to change the Illum. Control Unit, check the dimmer switch on the stalk, blah blah blah... I've tried all that and none of them worked. then I tried checking the wiring behind the AM stereo and it was a F****** mess! I started playing around with the wires and suddenly the dash light came on but wouldnt work when I turned on the headlights( FML:letitout:). Eventually I stated smelling smoke n the lights went out again, so I disconnected the battery (neg. terminal snapped in half from cold weather n rust!:curse:) and started taking apart the wiring and redoing it properly following this diagram Subaru WRX radio harness pin-out... Wires were cut (by previous owner) btw to connect to the AM stereo harness.
WIRING (was worse before I started re-wiring)

Now I'm stuck with the dimmer and illumination wire, and don't know where to put em and still not entirely sure if all this will make my dash lights work (Oh and my bulbs are not blown), need a new terminal and its freaking cold!
Does anyone know the actual cause for this problem? I've searched and searched here and several other forums but everyone that has my problem ever got a solution for it.:bonk:
