WRX Momo Emblem removal

So I have a jdm GD WRX wheel in my car that has the momo emblem with the silver ring. I hate the silver ring and would like to pull just the ring off and paint it black. Has anyone done that before? Can you just pry it off or does it have to go from the back?

I am hoping someone has seen an exploded one or tried this themselves.
