Hey all,
So I'm investigating an oil leak I've had for years now. It continuously has gotten worse to the point where about every month or so it gets low enough that the oil light starts to flash. I'll then fill it back up and repeat..
Engine is stock except intake, about to hit 170k. Never changed the oil pump, water pump, head gaskets, etc. Only spark plugs/wires, oil changes and timing belt.
I'm having trouble pinpointing it. The bottom of my engine is (was) completely covered in sludge, so I powerwashed it as best as I could. When I run it and look though I can't see any physical leak.. but I can't really see behind. I initially thought it would be the hg's since they are notorious, but after many years of daily driving and occasional spirited runs, the coolant still has nothing in it. Is it possible for them to leak that long externally without completely blowing and leaking into the coolant?
I've also considered the valve covers, oil pan and oil pump, but unless it is leaking really really slowly, I can't see anything oozing or dripping out. I've also considred the rear main, but I really hope that isn't the case.
Whatever it is is enough to spray it all over the underside over time.
On another note, I never notice stains on the ground, it seems to all collect on the underside of the engine, subframe and steering rack and get sludgy as hell.
Has anyone had a similar experience, or have any suggestions as to what the more likely cause would be? Any help is appreciated.
I'm looking to get down to some drift events this year, and want to make sure it isn't too serious (hg) and hopefully fix the leak. Don't want the engine blowing up on me down there when I'm beating on it.
Thanks! :)
