Okay so Im wondering the likelihood that this idea wont blow up in my face here.... Its annoying enough having to remember which key is for my GC8, which key is for the 02 OBS and which key is for the 02 WRX project car. Next I have to worry about when I finally get the forester next week, another key for that. I like to keep it light, and having that many keys to fumble through gets annoying.
I know that they did not code the keys in 2002, and obviously not in 98/99. What Im thinking of doing is getting new lock/ignition cylinders made to match between the cars. Have one master key start all four. I know that the lock cylinders are the same basic concept between them, they haven't changed a standard door lock cylinder in some time. Is there much of any difference between the GDA and the GC8? I would imagine the 98 forester matches the GC, but not positive. I have been told that Serv-U can match a new cylinder to your key, which is what got this ball rolling.
I know what youre thinking, that's a cool connect but bad idea if you plan on selling the car ever... Well my team and I have one thing in common, when we love a car we'll sooner roll it than sell it. And if someone makes an offer we cannot refuse, we still have the original cylinder/key set stored.
